gig etiquette

29Nov07

i’ve not been to a gig for a while. not one of a band i am a huge fan of anyway, but over the last two days i have seen the astonishing electrelane, before they embark on their indefinite hiatus (heard that one before. i’m talking to you, broken social scene) and the crazy akron/family.

both were fantastic, although electrelane won in my view. there’s nothing like singing along with verity susman at the top of your voice, in the knowledge that noone else can hear. then there was also the fact that my ex was not at that gig, ignoring me although i had given him his ticket, but another story for another time, eh?

in fact, the only thing that brought the electrelane gig down were a small group of girls, who couldn’t have been much younger than me.

in case you were wondering, the following actions are not acceptable at a gig:

  • woo-ing along to instrumentals
  • dancing so that you knock into 5 people around you, constantly, all at once
  • flicking your greasy hair into the features of bystanders
  • jumping up and down and squealing when you see some friends across the room
  • barging in front of people in a crowd like a tube train at 5.32pm
  • still, at least she didn’t try and go for the setlist.
